Más Flow: The Making

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing protocols, one of the major challenges that members have faced during this virtual time is staying engaged with one another. Más Flow wanted to create a way for our members to continue dancing in a safe and accessible manner, so we have hosted live Zoom meetings so that members of the company could feel like we are dancing together. As a result, leaders of the company initiated a new project of creating concept videos featuring members performing different genres of Latin dance, such as reggaeton and samba. During this process, members of the company created original choreography and hosted Zoom meetings to teach their choreography to other members. This video, a snippet of Más Flow’s reggaeton concept video choreographed by President Joan Perez, Artistic Director Marissa Mejia, and Assistant Artistic Director Corazón Núñez, is an example of one of these original choreographies that was made accessible to the company. After that, members who learned the new choreography recorded themselves dancing. The videos were then edited and compiled together to create the final concept video product.

Introducing the idea of concept videos has definitely strengthened connection with the company members, as it gives us a reason to host rehearsals and dance with one another,  something that we haven’t been able to do in person since we were on campus last spring. Reaching the end goal of creating a concept video has helped members to stay engaged with one another and collaborate like old times.
