Bio

Ted Hall is a music lawyer in New York and founder of The Law Office of Theodore Hall PLLC, where he advises artists, songwriters, estates, catalog owners, and investment funds on what decides a copyright's worth - who owns it, what it earns, and what a buyer should pay.

For artists, songwriters, and estates, he handles copyright termination and recapture under sections 203 and 304, royalty audits and recovery, and the licensing or sale of rights once they return. For owners, buyers, and sellers, he runs chain-of-title diligence, validates splits, maps termination exposure, tests deal models against payment history, and closes catalog transactions.

Before practicing, Ted spent six years as Director of Royalties at mtheory, now Virgin Music Label & Artist Services, building its royalty reporting infrastructure. Earlier he was a business manager for recording artists and touring acts at Rob Shore & Associates. His first career was in performing-arts finance, at Princeton Summer Theater, The New Group, and Mark Morris Dance Group: bookkeeping, budgets, and settlements for companies where the art always matters, but still depends on every dollar.

He holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, where he was a Distinguished Scholar, and an A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton. He is admitted in New York and belongs to the New York State Bar Association's Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section.
