Oriana’s work is interdisciplinary and focuses on the nexus of marine science, art, and food from the sea. Her mission is to inspire awe for the ocean and her creatures.

Bio

Oriana is a marine scientist and artist, and the founder of Pelagic Projects, LLC. Her work is interdisciplinary and focuses on the nexus of marine science, art, and food from the sea.

She is a Collaborating Scientist affiliated with the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center, and a Senior Fisheries Fellow at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Oriana earned her Master of Advanced Study in Marine Biodiversity & Conservation from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, and her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Princeton University.

Oriana's artistic practice includes immersive analog, digital, and alternative photographic processes. Her work has been featured by the Birch Aquarium, the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and recently profiled by the Getty Museum's Iris Blog. She is currently working on a book and exhibit about California's iconic marine snails, the abalone.

Oriana is currently open to artist residencies, studio space, funding and collaborators to develop a project of large-scale cyanotypes.
