This August, multidisciplinary performer Kate Stewart ‘25 brings her original one-woman play, Unshattered Matter, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, marking her post-graduate debut. The show, written and performed by Stewart, will run from August 11th to 23rd at Greenside’s Mint Studio. Developed initially as Stewart’s senior thesis at Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts in April 2025, Unshattered Matter is directed by Dominic Dominguez ‘25 and showcases work by fellow recent alumni Avi Chesler ‘25 and Noah James ‘25, as well as by current Princeton student Jenna Mullin ‘27. Together, they are excited to expand the work and share it with international audiences.
The show fuses movement, memory, and self-reckoning in a raw exploration of healing through chaos. A haunting and hopeful portrait of a life on the edge, Unshattered Matter follows Rena, a young woman suspended between life and death after a tragic accident. In this liminal space, she confronts her past, unearths long-buried guilt, and redefines her sense of self. Through a blend of choreography and poetic narrative, the piece asks: How do we carry on through darkness? Unshattered Matter is a play about self-reflection, redemption, and the human capacity for growth amidst personal flaws and mistakes.
