Soprano Alexis Rodda and pianist Keith Chambers will give a concert of songs based on sacred Catholic texts and other writings inspired by the Catholic faith on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 8 PM at St. Boniface Oratory in Brooklyn, New York. The concert will be featured as part of the St. Boniface Virtual Recital Series and will be available live on the Brooklyn Oratory of St. Philip Neri’s YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/c/BrooklynOratory.

Soprano Alexis Rodda described by New York Classical Review as having “a lovely voice, full of color and body in every register.” She was a Fulbright scholar for music from 2019 to 2020, conducting research at the Exiled Art Center in Vienna, Austria. Alexis also sings sacred music professionally, previously with the Augustinkirche in Vienna, and previously at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Currently, she serves as Director of Music at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a former district winner and regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition.

Pianist and conductor Keith Chambers has conducted over 150 performances of over 50 different operas for companies including The Dallas Opera, Indianapolis Opera, New Amsterdam Opera, Amarillo Opera, Shreveport Opera, Opera Ithaca and Manhattan Opera Studio. He has assisted noted conductors Emmanuel Villaume, Patrick Summers, Willie Anthony Waters, and Riccardo Frizza, among others. He is the Founder & Artistic Director of New Amsterdam Opera.

The program will feature the Stabat Mater by Julia Perry, an American composer who combined European and neoclassical training with her African-American heritage. Her Stabat Mater, written in 1951, displays her experimentation with dissonance and quartal harmonies.

Other pieces on the program include Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs, Puccini’s Salve Regina, and then a set based on Rodda’s research into exiled composers, including Egon Lustgarten, Karl Weigl, and Robert Stolz.
