This concert is a pot-pourri of music we love, from the garden of Melodia’s repertoire. The Fauré Messe Basse (Low Mass) was on the first Melodia concert back in 2004! It’s signature Fauré, with a Kyrie, Sanctus/Benedictus and Agnus Dei, the bare bones of the liturgy, with harmonic twists and surprises. Then there is the music from Bulgarian voices made famous way back in the 80’s when “Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares” was released on the Nonesuch label. Everyone from Linda Ronstadt to Crosby, Stills, and Nash to Jerry Garcia extolled this fabulous folk music. (Their unique style of singing even inspired the soundtrack of the hit T.V. series, Xena: Warrior Princess!) We’ve always loved Paul Halley’s music and his affinity to write for treble voices. Paul was organist at the NYC’s St. John the Divine and presided over one of the world’s great pipe organs, so the inclusion of organ pervades our concert. We can’t wait to share this music with our audience!
